Syed Abdul Motlib came to Britain in the 1940s when there were very
few Sylhetis in the country. He started the Dhaka Restaurant then
opened Durbar Restaurant in 24 Hereford Road in Bayswater in 1956
with Syed Mahmud Ali, Masrif Ali and the father of the present owners
Syed Abdul Quddus.
S.A. Quddus came to Britain in the early 1950s leaving his wife and
family to follow later.
Raised a family of seven, four sons and one daughter of whom continue
to run Durbar(see Shamim Syed) and cousin Rekha runs a second
restaurant in Greenford
The Durbar is the oldest continually family owned "Indian"
restaurant in London. |
