Nancy was born in Singapore in 1948, the next to youngest as one of
10 children, to an Indonesian Mother and a Chinese Father. Her
cooking skills were first nurtured as the result of her
Grandmothers teaching. Her Father owned a prawn cracker
manufacturing business. At the age of 22 Nancy decided to go to
London. She tried various careers before eventually settling on
Nursing. It was during this time that she met Ben and in 1976 they
were married. Nancy lives with her husband in South London and has 3
grown up daughters.
Career : In 1984 a friend asked Nancy to provide canapés
for 200 guests a hotel on Cromwell Road. The fee was £400. From
this beginning Nancy set up a home catering business, combining this
with charity work in the form of barbecues for primary schools in the
Wimbledon area.
Nancy Lam opened her small restaurant Enak Enak 18 years ago
to introduce Londoners to her unique brand of family-style, Indonesian-inspired
cooking - laced with a whole lot of Nancy's trademark personal
spice! That restaurant has since blossomed into a larger
sophisticated space that is more than twice its original size, thanks
to a major refurbishment that started in May 2004 and completed in September.
When it officially re-opened on October 14, 2004, it was packed with
celebrity guests, friends, old and new customers
Nancy Lam has appeared on numerous TV shows nationwide. She has had a
regular slot on Channel 5 where she displayed her Oriental cooking
skills, inspiring millions of viewers across the country to follow her.
