Dr M G Moula Miah DBA, MIH, FRSA

Born in Moulvibazar, Bangladesh in 1964. After receiving his education from local institutions, he left for the United Kingdom at the age of only 16. Dr Moula is married to Farhana and blessed with two daughters Saleha and Fabiha Sultana and two sons Md.Taushifur and Mustafizur Rahman, who are always very supportive and willing to take part in some of his many instituiitions in the near future.

Education : After his arrival in the UK, he attended for further education in college on a part time basis. He obtained a national diploma in business studies.

Career : Joined his father's traditional clothing and manufacturing business in Birmingham. Soon his concentration took a new direction and he started to take his own motivated passion, which was to promote Bangladeshi cuisines alongside the culture to the British people. Soon his dream turned to reality, with his hard work and devotion; he officially launched his first multi-award winning restaurant Rajnagar in 1987 and followed by a successful Group of Restaurants, as well as residential hotels and land and property development business in the UK and abroad.

He won many national and international awards and recommendations for his business activities and was supported by the international press and media worldwide. He has been presented with a Centec Business Enterprise investor in people award, Michelin highly recommended award for the last 13 years, 5 star National Dome Top 30 restaurants (BIBA) for an incredible 17 consecutive years, the British Curry awards 2005 and won for a second time in 2006, SFH awards, BOBS 2008 award and many more throughout the years.

Although Indian cuisine is now the most popular food of choice in the UK, fish connoisseurs in particular, have had little to celebrate that is until Moula introduced his specialist fish menu. Rajnagar International brings to the tables of British diners a tradition for fish that has grown for centuries around the teeming waters of the Ganges Delta and the Bay of Bengal. The fish recipes have attracted international culinary recognition featuring often on the world stage. Dr Moula has also set a trend by offering a dessert menu that offers the most exquisite and exotic creations.

After many years of part-time study, Moula Miah received his Doctorate in Business Management in 2005. A private champagne and buffet reception was held at Shades of Raj attended by 60 vip invited guests. Guests of honour included John Taylor MP, who presented the degree and the Mayor and Mayoress of Solihull. John Taylor said in his address, "Moula is a truly remarkable and multi-talented man with an amazing set of business credentials the likes of which I have rarely seen before. Surely he is an inspiration to us all. His hard work and sheer dedication to his chosen profession has culminated in this doctorate degree and I am sure you will all join me in passing on hearty congratulations by raising your glasses in a toast to Doctor Moula Miah".

As a British role model, Dr. Moula is involved with the Bangladeshi community welfare. At the moment, he is the Chairman of Rajnagar International Group of Businesses and East West Trading Corporation UK and Bangladesh, Chairman of Dr Moula foundation, founder of Rajnagar degree college masjid; Bahadurganj Furkania masjid and madrasa complex, President and Founder of the Guild of Bangladeshi Restaurateurs and Moulvibazar Zilla Jonoseba Sangstha, both in the West Midlands, UK, Vice President of Rajnagar Youth Welfare Society UK, Co- founder of Mohallal High School and Choudhury Bazaar Masjid, Executive and Life member of the Red Crescent society, former senior vice president Bangladesh welfare association Birmingham, life member Moulvibazar and London Bangla Press Club, Member Of The Institute Of Hospitality (MIH), Fellow Of The Royal Society Of Arts (FRSA), to name a few.

The objective behind the campaign undertaken by the Guild of Bangladeshi Restaurateurs is to help diners differentiate between the types of cuisine from the Indian sub-continent. The support for the campaign is swiftly gathering support. Said, Dr Moula, "Everyone can tell the difference between Vietnamese and Chinese food and, thanks to the campaign, people will now be able to distinguish the differences between Bangladeshi and Indian food". Moula is the first to iterate that the campaign has nothing against Indian restaurants nor their owners but Bangladeshi restaurateurs should be stringently marketing their own identify with pride. Since its inauguration, the campaign has attracted such luminaries as Sir John Major and the former prime minister of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia. Former British High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Dr. A FM Yusuf also lent his support. MPs from across the political spectrum joined forces with many celebrities to wish the venture well ably covered by the world media. .

As a worthy Bangladeshi, he has helped raise funds for charities in both the UK and Bangladesh. He has funded many institutions in Bangladesh and adjacent areas in Rajnagar towards infrastructure building, offering scholarships to meritious students and helping needy people. Now he is developing the local projects to create new job opportunities, such as manufacturing industries, shopping malls and living quarters for the financially handicapped people. He also promotes learning the English Language by providing a grammar book called "A Complete English Grammar" published by him free of cost to different school libraries.

Dr. Moula is always up for giving to charity. Indeed, since the mid 80's he has organised functions for many charities supported by celebrities from the world of food, stage screen and sport. These have included the Alzheimer's Society, the UK's leading care and research charity, (CRP) the friends of the centre for the rehabilitation of the paralysed in Bangladesh in support of Valerie Taylor OBE. Substantial funds have also been donated to international natural disasters such as the Tsunami and the many Bangladesh Floods and Cyclone appeals and many other charity organisations.
