Career : Mohammed Sabir opened his first restaurant in Shipley
in 1977 with the aim of presenting authentic Kashmiri cuisine of the
highest order to the people of Shipley and Bradford. Aagrah
has since expanded and created a niche amongst those appreciative of
good authentic Asian food served in opulent surroundings.
This family run restaurant group has prospered and grown over the
last 30 years in response to the local and regional community
acknowledging the standards set by Aagrah. The special qualities
created in Shipley have since been recreated successfully with
branches of the Aagrah restaurant now throughout the Yorkshire
region. Now Chairman of the Group run by his brother Mohammed Aslam.
Received MBE in New Year Honours 2006 from her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth, for his outstanding charity work raising money since the
Pakistan Earthquake. Though his passion for charity came long before
the disaster in his homeland. Ever since his beloved handicapped son
passed away 18 years ago, Sabir has continuously held yearly charity
events raising money for the school his son attended, as well as
raising money for schools and hospitals in both the UK and overseas.
The 65-year-old chairman of Shipley-based Aagrah restaurant, who was
honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Bradford's Community
Awards, dedicated himself to organising fundraising dinners and
events raising more than £1 million since he set up Jannat
Welfare International Trust to help needy people in Bradford and
Pakistan after he lost his nine-year-old disabled son, Sajid, to
pneumonia in 1983. |
