Modassar Bashir

Career : Managing Director of the famous Kashmir restaurant in Bradford started in 1957 by his uncle, Mohammed Latif, to cater for for the growing Asian population in Bradford at the time. Bradford had always been very friendly towards immigrants – just round the corner there’s a German church and a Polish community centre – and his uncle’s family made their home here in the 1950s along with many other Asians. Soon there was a large demand for Asian food and also the opportunity to get together and socialise, and so the Kashmir opened in response to that. People went there to play cards after work, and for them it became like a home from home.

Recently (2003) opened the very large, smart Anams in Bradford.
