Born in India, Dr Kartar Lalvani came to Britain in 1956. He is a
Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and has a doctorate in
medicinal chemistry gained at the University of Bonn. Sons Tej 34,

Career: Dr Lalvani (77), who has been passionate about healthy
cooking for the last 40 years - often called India's answer to the 3
Michelin starred Heston Blumenthal - opened the 120 seat Indali Lounge
in at fifty Baker Street, London W1 in Oct 2008, backed by some great
media comments.
Dr Kartar Lalvani, who champions the philosophy for healthy eating
and living, is the founder and President of Britain's leading vitamin
nutraceutical company, with clinically proven, top household brands.
Divia Lalvani, the founder of Zuma restaurant, is wife of chocolate
heir Joel Cadbury and niece of Kartar. Dr Lalvani, who as a renowned
scientist is deep into 'science of cooking' as he so passionately
calls it, was forced to fire the first 2 sets of chefs in the first
month of opening, because they could not shed the habits of over
spicing with garam masala and stop using butter, ghee and cream,
while substituting with moderate use of sunflower oil and olive oil
with Lalvani's special innovative technique. He is pioneer of
producing butter-chicken without butter! and dal-makhni without makhan!!
Dr Lalvani has won many business and personal awards, including The
Queen's Award for Enterprise 2003 and 2008, DTI Innovation Award
2005, Asian of the Year 2004 and an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur
Award 2008. He support numerous health and education related
charities, including Kidney Research UK, National Childbirth Trust,
The British Heart Foundation, TB Alert and the National Osteoporosis Society. |
