Karl Steppe

Born in Belgium. 

Career : Blue Elephant Bangkok Ltd., was originally created in the 70’s by Mr. Karl Steppe(Chairman) as a small exporting Asian antiques from Thailand.

In 1981, Mr. Karl Steppe, his wife Khun Nooror Somany and two Thai partners opened in Brussels “Blue Elephant”, a fine restaurant offering authentic and original Thai cuisine in an exotic and enchanting atmosphere. The first La Porte des Indes was opened in 1983.

In Thailand, Blue Elephant Bangkok Ltd., was now shipping more than just decorations, it started sourcing equipment, ceramics then dry ingredients and fresh flown fruits, vegetarian and flowers.

In the 90’s, The Blue Elephant group carried on development and franchised internationally its restaurant concept in New Delhi, Dubai, Beirut, Lyon and Malta.

In 2002, Blue Elephant created its own Thai cooking school in the heart of Bangkok in a 100 year old Thai traditional mansion. Blue Elephatn Kuwait opened in 2003 and world soon be followed in 2004 by opening of Bahrain and Moscow.

Operating 12 Blue Elephant restaurant, Blue Elephant Bangkok Ltd., moved in 2001 into larger premises near the Bangkok Airport. Equipped with modern facilities, Blue Elephant Bangkok team provides world wide fine food ingredient and high catering supplies.

1st September 2003 saw the official launch of the Thai Government’s campaign to increase the Thai restaurant sector in the UK to well over a half billion pound industry over the coming five years with The Blue Elephant Group as a partner.

There are now 13 Blue Elephant outlets worldwide and two La Porte des Indes with more openings on the way.
