Jamal Hirani

Born 1967. Mother left Idi Amin's Uganda in 1976 and started new life by cooking samosas and onion bhajis and selling to local outlets.

Career : CEO & Founder of Tiffinbites. Worked at Marks & Spencer as a lingerie buyer then headed Pricerunner price comparison website in 2002 and emailed people in the City about buying light, healthy Indian food.He had a 48% positive response so quit his job and borrowed £200,000 to set up test outlet in Soho. Second one was set up in Cannon Street and showed lunchtimes did well for 'Grab n Go' but not so good in evenings. Other Tiffinbites outlets followed in Moorgate, Liverpool Street and Canray Wharf with more to come.

In 2005 invested £1 million on a food production site for Tiffinbites and started 'Tiffin Wednesdays' to serve corporate canteens.

2008 - his Gourmet Restaurant Group acquired Vama and Khana by Vama as well as the restaurant and takeaway chain Bombay Bicycle Club to become the largest Indian restaurant group in UK. The £4.4m deal sees Tiffinbites - best known for serving tens of thousands of curries to City bankers - taking over the Bombay Bicycle Club with 18 restaurants and kitchens in London's most desirable areas.
