Chad Rahman

Chad Rahman was born in London to parentage of Bangladeshi origin. He is married to Cherry and son Zack. His childhood interest in cooking was encouraged by his mother, but his culinary career truly began to flourish while he studied for his degree/masters at The University Of Houston in Texas, U.S.A. where he completed a double major in accounting and hotel restaurant management degree at the world famous Conrad Hilton Hotel School. He went on to further complete a MBA in International Finance.

Chad's passion for cooking developed during his stay in the U.S.A. He worked in a variety of hospitality outlets ranging from hotels to restaurants, absorbing the nuances and specialities of ethnic cuisine, particularly French, Indian, Persian, Mexican and Thai.

Career : He worked in a variety of highly prestigious hospitality outlets ranging from hotels to restaurants such as the 5 Star Hyatt Regency Hotel and Four Seasons Hotel, Houston, Texas and The Hilton Hotel Group.

Owner/chef of Mumtaj in St Albans. Won National Curry Chef title in 2002 & 2003 and International Chef of the Year 2004. 2008 he opened Chez Mumtaj to offer up market French-Indian cuisine(www.chezmumtaj.com) Awarded an AA Rosette in March 2009 - the only stand alone restaurant in St Albans to do so.

Chad Rahman is one of the UKs most innovative and dynamic curry chefs today. Specialising in South Eastern Asian Cuisine Chad is an individual who has moved from strength to strength in his development as a creative chef. Chads unique eclectic style of cooking draws from indo-french and pan asian nuances.

Chad has made an outstanding contribution to the asian food industry for his culinary excellence and has proven his ability by entering numerous chef competitions on a local, regional, national and international level.

Charitable Work

Tsunami - Chad raised over £18,000 in association with UCL Bloomsbury Theatre for the victims of the Tsunami disaster at a charity dinner, February 2005. All proceeds went to the Buddhist Village Trust for Sri Lanka to rebuild two orphanages and provide aid and education for the children affected by the Tsunami.

Grove House Hospice 2003 – Chad, in association with the Mayors Charity in St Albans held a Charity dinner at his signature restaurant, Mumtaj to raise funds for the Hospice Cancer Research.

Chad has performed numerous cooking demonstrations showcasing the art of modern indian cooking for Tesco plc, Food Festivals, Cooking demonstrations for asian events such as the Birmingham Mela and Asian Lifestyle show, Olympia.. Chad has featured in many local, regional and national newspaper publications and on BBC Radio and Tv programmes. Chad has regularly featured in asian catering magazines including Tandoori Magazine, Masala Magazine and Spice Business Magazine. Furthermore Chads recipes have been featured in the ‘Food Manufacturer Magazine’ and Restaurant Business Magazine.

Hobbies : Reading, Appreciation for Sociial Liberal Arts, Cricket, Golf and a passion to learn other ethnic cuisines.

Proudest Moments : Birth of son Zack and winning the National Curry Chef title 2 years running.

Ambitions : Promote local British produce in Indian restaurants and to establish a UK Indian Food Academy for Training & Development with Professional qualifications.
