Amrik Singh Uppal

Career : Amrik has been involved in the catering industry for over 15 years. Having previously developed and overseen the operational elements of the Shimla Pinks brand from the initial restaurant in Johnstone, Ayrshire in 1998 to running a multi unit operation to encompassing over 8 units nationwide some 8 years later making Shimla Pinks the first truly nationwide restaurant brand. Amrik sold out of the Shimla Pinks group in early 2001 to focus on the Pickle Johns brand. Amrik manages the overall direction of the East & West Restaurant group and Jimmy Spices with an emphasis on working with the Group Head of cuisine to bring new ideas to market.

His partner in East West is Kuldip Singh whose background includes the build, design and development of the Yellow River Café brands as well as having an input into the Pickle Johns, Shimla Pinks and Poppadom Express brands. Kuldip oversees the units from a back office as well as being involved in the selection and site assessment of new locations nationwide.

The Jimmy Spice's Buffetworks story started in Birmingham in 2004 when they took possession of an old glassworks off Broad Street in Birmingham in the prestigious Regency Wharf development. The concept brings together the theatrics of Indian, Chinese, Thai & Italian cooking in a live theatre style cooking display.

Following the tremendous success of the flagship we traveled south opening our second unit in April 2006 in Solihull in the former Wates Wine Lodge site turning this building into a 300 seat capacity restaurant with a 100 seat capacity bar called NYC on Station Road proving a focal point for local people who want to dine and drink alike.

In December 2006 a new restaurant in Sutton Coldfield opeed as a 400 seat capacity Jimmy Spices with a 150 seat capacity bar called NYC proving to be one of the largest restaurants in the West Midlands. The latest outlet is in Epsom, Surrey.
