Born in Jalalpur-Nabigonj. Amin Ali arrived in UK from Bangladesh in
1972. Married to Jobeda with four daughters.
Career : Started as a waiter and then persuaded Camden Council
to give grants to open restaurants and was founding Secretary of the
Bengali Workers Action Group in Camden. Last Days of the Raj and Lal
Qila received much acclaim but later closed. Owner of Red Fort
in Soho which has been one of the top Indian restaurants in UK since
it opened in 1987. Later he opened Soho Spice which he has now sold
and was a partner in Busaba Eathai also in Soho. In 2001 The Red Fort
was closed by a fire but in 2002 re-opened better than ever.
Won Time Out Best Indian Restaurant in 2003. Enjoys squash and football. |
